Week one: Style Review
Charles Woodson
Peter Schrager
Michael Vick
Julian Edelman
Charissa Thompson
The wait is over for NFL fans around the country. It’s my favorite season and am thrilled football is back. Watching the games Thursday and Friday night, was awesome. Everyone at the bar had smiles on their faces – except Packer fans when their QB went down in the final seconds of the game.
I’ve always enjoyed the
NFL Fox Sunday Kickoff morning pregame show and seeing what the commentators wear. Week after week, they show up looking dapper and well dressed in looks that inspire me and I hope men around the country. The fabrics, fits, and accessories are combos and looks I want men to look at and get inspired and encouraged to wear. Now keep in mind, the commentators wear suits for years now and week after week. They may have stylists and a closet full of suits and accessories. I say that because it takes time to build a wardrobe but I’m sharing these blogs to help inspire and explain their looks from my point of view. I also say this because I am not there on the show or know who puts their looks together. But who cares. Let’s enjoy their style and outfits and be inspired to dress well and up our suit/style game.
I don’t have access to great photos and use my iPhone to take these from my couch. If you read this and have better photos to share or know where I can access them, please let me know. Let’s get to week 1 and what they crew is sporting.

Hands down, Charles Woodson has the best style of any gentleman in the NFL on or off the field. To me, his style is true menswear. Meaning, he doesn’t over do his looks with crazy patterns, colors or accessories. He’s not trendy. His outfits flow together, and the pieces are not matchy matchy (like prom) yet the pieces complement each other. When he gets dressed, it’s almost like his doesn’t overthink his look but you know he puts a lot time, effort, care, and attention into what he wears. I love his
trademark look of his ascots he is seen wearing many times. That’s iconic menswear – classic, timeless pieces that have been a staple in menswear for centuries and he adds his personal touch.

This Sunday morning, he didn’t rock an ascot, however, he did wear one the day before (Saturday morning) at the Michigan game. I mean, he looked
GQ!. Today, Charles is wearing a 3 piece suit – blue check jacket, grey vest and matching grey pants. The outfit is classic menswear colors (grey and blue) – not pink or purple. I think he’s wearing a white-collar dress shirt on a light blue shirt but can’t confirm.

If he is, again – classic menswear – that’s Charles’ style. Love the simple blue tie. I love that the jacket gets all the attention and everything else is classic and compliments the look. I encourage my clients who have a hard time wearing patterned jackets/suits, on dressing just like this. Pick one piece in your outfit that is your statement piece that gets all the attention. Charles’ look today explains that to a T. The jacket is patterned and bold (the statement piece) and everything else is classic and compliments it. I like that his fit is tailored but not tight. His pants are slightly wider than I’ve seen before but not a trendy wide fit. His suits fit his frame well in a classic way that’s not fashion forward. It’s not his style to be fashion forward but classic and cool. I think Charles is a great man to follow for classic suit style. He adds his own edge to his looks, and you can take a lot of inspiration from him. I’m super excited to see what he wears every Sunday morning. Thank you, Charles, for always looking dapper.

I appreciate Peter Schrager’s suits. His style doesn’t steal the show or isn’t going to be on the covers of GQ anytime soon, however, his suits fit and he looks great. Now, I googled how old he is and he’s only 42 years old. I’m 42 years old and wow, he looks much older than I thought.
He defiantly has an older man suit look and that could also be his hair style. But honestly, in the past years of watching Peter on Sunday mornings on the pregame show, I’m more interested in what he has to say than what he’s wearing. I’ve seen him on other sports shows and he does dress younger and edgier, but I’m not going to bash his style. He looks great today and I appreciate his clean look so I can focus more on what he is sharing vs what tie color he picked.
Now, gentleman, if you are a guy and have a job where you give speeches, want people to focus more on your face and what you say vs turning heads when you walk into a room, Peter Schrager is a man to follow for his style. If you are a man who has worked hard and people really respect you and style isn’t your thing but you just want to build a wardrobe of good basics and still look presentable, Peter Schrager’s style is a good one to take note of. His suit colors probably will reflect the seasons (darker colors fall/winter and lighter colors spring/summer) and are looks he can wear year after year and that’s great! Peter’s style is simple classic menswear that doesn’t turn heads but he is always dressed well (except the shoes).
I couldn’t help noticing his black loafers (I think) and white socks he’s sporting – huh?! Peter. This must be a mistake. Someone must have forgotten to pack dress socks. I’m grateful you are not wearing white sneakers with your suit, and I’d take your black loafers look over white sneakers any day but white socks with black shoes? Please call me and I’ll give you some
dress socks to wear with your suits. It’s ok. Men, please don’t wear that.

Michael Vick’s style is a blend of classic menswear and southern gentleman. Michael is 44 years old and I’m surprised because he dresses younger (which I love). I’m thinking back to the last couple years he’s been on the pregame show and defiantly enjoyed his style. Today, not so much. Love his suit from the fabric choice to the peak lapels and the angled pockets. Love the suit. The tie, pocket square, lapel pin and tie bar are too much. It was cool about 10 years ago. Michael is too important to be dressing like Banana Republic circa 1990. Take that suit and pair with a great shirt and tie and watch and shoes – he would look awesome. Those accessories and that combo today is just not inspiring and edgy. It looks too
department store style. I honestly think someone picked these accessories out for him. I know he has better style than this. I know he will sport some better looks in the weeks and months to come.

I love Julian Edelman’s look today. This is how men are wearing suits today. If you are a guy who needs to wear a suit to an event and not a board meeting, take note of Julian Edelman’s suit today.

If you are a man who wants to wear a more casually looking suit but still tailored, take note of Julian Edelman’s suit today. I can’t tell what the fabric is bit it looks like a linen blend. I could be wrong. I love that the fabric doesn’t look super shiny and more casual. I love that it doesn’t appear that his suit has a shoulder pad but a
Neapolitan shoulder. Which is no shoulder pad, super soft construction and gathers at the top on the sleeve head which the effect is a more casual look. Love the brown color and the shoes he’s sporting. The shirt is perfect because it doesn’t get any attention and the suit gets all the attention. With a look of a brown suit like he’s sporting, you want everything else to be simple and not many accessories. So, if you are wearing casually style suits like Julian is wearing, remember the only accessories you should wear are great shoes and a great watch. Leave the tie, pocket square and cuff links at home. With a look like this, less is more. Julian is the best dressed today.

Charissa Thompson looks stunning today. Her hair style is on point and love the short sleek bob. A new look this season. Her dress is gorgeous and love the length and the shoes she picked. Her overall look is beautiful and glamorous but not too sexy. The last couple years, I love to see what she wears. Some weeks I liked her look better than others but I can say the same about what I wear at times. Her suits (at times) were awesome and made a statement in a classy way. Her style is very feminine but not sexy for the sports world she’s in. Ladies, if you work in a man’s world and want to dress feminine yet professional, defiantly pay attention to Charissa’s looks. I’m excited to see what she wears this season.
I’m so happy football is back!! Enjoy the season!! Go Bears!!
